Philippines News - Manila Standard Today - Social responsibility is everybody’s business - june24_2006: "ocial responsibility is everybody’s business

Businessmen are supposed to be tough creatures who are mostly concerned about profits, stock market, interest rates, foreign exchange rates, and anything else related to raising their or the company’s net worth.

So, when they venture beyond their familiar turf and delve into the country’s social problems, one can’t help but wonder.

The members of the League of Corporate Foundations apparently is not one of those businessmen and rather seems to care more on creating a more sustainable environment for our countrymen and thus, contribute in nation building.

“We can’t just do business alone,” says Marilou Erni, executive director Petron Foundation and LCF advisory council member, “There has got to be a balance of economics, social, and environment factors… It’s really going beyond the business…”

More than extending philanthropic acts, or dole-outs (as the more affluent in the society are wont to do), LCF is providing a rather businesslike approach to social problems—meaning more concrete solutions that would result to long term success."
