Philanthropy emerging as focus of academic study « Philanthropy North Carolina: "Academic scholarship and teaching on philanthropy are thin but emerging, with much of it geared to the business of raising money and giving it away, and with the potential to cause conflicts between its funders and those who study them, a British philanthropy scholar and practitioner says.

In Europe, university-based centers’ courses and training “are not keeping pace with the growth in the scale and prominence of philanthropy in recent years,” Charles Keidan, a philanthropy practice research fellow at the Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy at Cass Business School at City University in London, writes in an article in Times Higher Education."

Should a not-for-profit organization incorporate? - Information, research and resources for fundraisers and their leaders: "A not-for-profit organization (NPO) has no legal requirement to incorporate; however, as an unincorporated entity, the organization would have no legal status. An unincorporated NPO is simply a group of people (members) who get together for a common purpose. What does this mean? It means the members of the organization may be personally liable for the full amount of any debts incurred by the organization. An unincorporated entity cannot sue or be sued.  The members may initiate lawsuits and, likewise they may be sued for the actions of the NPO."

Sector highlights concerns over involvement of Charity Commission board, following NAO report: "Various sector bodies have echoed concerns, which were highlighted by the National Audit Office in its follow-up report on the Charity Commission, about the risk that the board’s “continuing close involvement in executive matters could become the norm”.
Elizabeth Chamberlain, policy manager at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), wrote in a blog that the report rightly points out the dangers of the board’s involvement in executive matters continuing for longer than necessary. She said that “if the board continues to be too involved in the day-to-day activities of the Commission, the independence of executive versus non-executive functions is seriously at risk”."

How does Social Enterprise translate to the Charitable Sector? Part 8 - Activities of Registered Charities: Related Business - Information, research and resources for fundraisers and their leaders: "Content about related business is perhaps the most referenced CRA policy in SE resources.  It is mentioned often as it presumably opens the door to unrestricted business activity for charities as long as a ‘connection’ can be established.  If a SE is mission-related, i.e. it delivers an essential service or a employs marginalized population, then funding and donations can seemingly be solicited to support a SE’s ‘double bottom line’.   "
