Charitable giving mixed bag so far - St. Catharines Standard - Ontario, CA: "The majority of Canadians donated to charities in 2007 according to the latest survey by Statistics Canada, but some local organizations say giving has slowed.

Some local charities and non-profit organizations have seen a drop or levelling off of financial giving over the last two years.

But the tough economy hasn’t been a recipe for disaster for all non-profits, with others reporting increased generosity.

“It’s certainly flattened out a bit but we’re still doing pretty well,” said Bill Hallett, CEO of the Niagara Health System Foundation. “I believe by the fall it will rebound very well.”"
