PAYING chief executives high salaries is a waste of money; bring on the celebrities. Don’t argue, the public have spoken.
According to a poll by nfpSynergy, a think-tank, more than 80 per cent of people think paying charity chief executives £60,000 a year is excessive. Instead, survey respondents, on average, settled on £46,000 as an acceptable reward for running a charity with an income of between £10 million and £25 million.
In fact, says Third Sector (June 14), chief executives running charities of that size earn an average of £71,000. A few respondents would be less than happy with that figure — 14 per cent of people think £20,000 is more than enough."
