1june2006 - Professional Fundraising-Giving Forum calls for government to underwrite tests of original ideas

1june2006 - Professional Fundraising: "Giving Forum calls for government to underwrite tests of original ideas

The Giving Forum is pushing for the introduction of a new scheme that would see the government underwriting the testing of new fundraising techniques.

The Challenge Fund, as it has been dubbed, would allow charities to test out new ideas without putting donations at risk. the Forum first suggested the idea to the government a few months ago, and now a meeting is to be set up with Ed Miliband, minister for the third sector, to discuss whether the proposal can be taken any further forward.

Lord Richard Best, director of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and chair of the Giving Forum, said: “We floated the idea with the Home Office about five months ago. They’ve been making favourable noises but have also come up with their own variant on the theme so we could find that although the idea may come to some fruition it may be done without involvement from the Giving Forum.”"
