The survey of Canadians and Canadian businesses, which was conducted on behalf of Toronto-based Business for the Arts (BftA), found more than half (52 per cent) of Canadians said they favour businesses that invest in arts and culture."

Tax relief on pre-eminent gifts raised to �30m a year | Philanthropy UK: An extra �10m for tax relief on gifts of pre-eminent objects to the nation was announced by the Chancellor in his recent autumn statement, taking the total relief to �30m per year.

The aim is to stimulate lifetime giving. Objects can be loaned or given to appropriate institutions including certain charities and museums for safe keeping and to provide public access. In return donors will receive a reduction in their UK tax liability based on a percentage of the value of the object they are donating.

Sponsors exit stage left as private donors help fill void: "A BIG lift in private donations has offset the Australian arts' first fall in corporate sponsorship in five years.

A report released yesterday by the Australia Business Arts Foundation showed sponsorship nationally fell by 2.7 per cent last year to about $98 million. It had previously risen each year since 2004-05."

Mexico City, Jan 23 (IANS/EFE) Carlos Slim, the richest man in the world according to Forbes magazine, is setting up an art museum in Mexico City that will exhibit around 66,000 works, including a few by noted artists Picasso, Rodin and Dali.

Construction of the museum, designed by his son-in-law, Mexican architect Fernando Romero, started in 2008 and it will be inaugurated this April, its curator Alfonso Miranda said."

Cardiff University Netball Club presented a cheque for £2000 last week to Cancer Research UK, following their successful charity calendar.

The lingerie calendar sold over 800 copies, and was featured in gair rhydd last October. It was sold around the University, locally in Cardiff and reached as far afield as Thailand."
