Courts can resume ordering charity donations after legislation introduced | The Australian: Almost two months ago, the Supreme Court ruled the long-standing practice was invalid.
But the State Government has introduced legislation that legitimises it.
Courts will be able to direct offenders to donate to a charity or community service, or to the court to distribute.
"This practice dates back many years, to when contributions were ordered to the court 'poor box'," Attorney-General Robert Clark said.
