CHARITY would appear to be alive and well in Ireland, with figures out this week showing that Daffodil Day, now celebrating its 20th anniversary, raised a record €3.8m in aid of the Irish Cancer Society this year.

'There's no doubt that we're a charitable society, but it's a spontaneous thing with us,' said Kingsley Aikins, chief executive of The Worldwide Ireland Funds. 'However, there isn't a philanthropic culture of planned or strategic giving.'"
