Generosity of the tycoons with so much more to give - Yorkshire Post: "He isn't the only Yorkshireman who has hit the headlines recently for his benevolence. Earlier this month it emerged that Barnsley-born entrepreneur Paul Sykes had donated £1m to Marie Curie and was financing Sir Ranulph Fiennes's attempt to conquer Everest later this year. The pair said they hoped to raise more than £2m for the charity's Delivering Choice programme, which allows terminally-ill patients to choose where they spend their final days.
A new study by Barclays Wealth suggests that such acts of generosity are increasingly coming from self-made millionaires and billionaires, rather than those who inherited their wealth. It also reveals that more than a third of wealthy donors in Yorkshire believe that giving their time to charity is better than giving just money."
