Charities must pay stamp duty - The Standard: Charity groups will not be exempt from paying the buyer's stamp duty as it is difficult to tell whether they will really use flats for charity purposes, a senior government official said yesterday.
"More than 5,000 out of the 7,600 charity groups listed under the tax system are registered companies," said Agnes Wong Tin-yu, deputy secretary for transport and housing, at the meeting of the bills committee on the Stamp Duty (Amendment) Bill 2012.
