Museum chiefs want tax deals to boost donations by public | News: "Ed Vaizey, shadow culture minister, said they believed the Government had not done enough to encourage private philanthropy.

'We are looking at a number of possible tax changes,' he said. They include tax relief for the gift of important works of art to the nation by living donors - an extension of the existing scheme which applies to art given in lieu of death duties.

Figures from Sir Nicholas Serota of the Tate to Neil MacGregor of the British Museum believe the moves would help to create a greater culture of philanthropy."
