BUDGET 2015: 5 key points to look out for | South China Morning Post: "3. If you run a charity in Hong Kong, your organisation can get a cut of the lottery revenue from the Mark Six.

Charities can apply for a grant from the Lotteries Fund. The government set up the fund in the 1960s to pay for welfare projects. In fact, back in 1994, a legislator said that people play the Mark Six partly to win, and partly because they think it’s a charitable donation. For each bet placed on the Mark Six, 15 per cent goes towards a fund managed by the Social Welfare Department. That’s augmented by auctioning car license plates and investments. Last year, the fund was worth HK$21 billion."

Maximising Impact: How philanthropists can do the most good on the ground | Philanthropy Impact

Maximising Impact: How philanthropists can do the most good on the ground | Philanthropy Impact: "Philanthropy and financial risk management?
At first look, philanthropists and financial risk management may seem an unlikely pair. But as you start thinking about the emerging markets the projects are most situated in, the procedures and regulations involved in transferring their funds into the local currency, and the operational work involved in getting the funds delivered to the right people on the ground, you begin to build up a picture of the how complicated this international operation actually is. One of the main issues for NGOs is that often they receive donations in one or two currencies, which then need to be transferred to the local currency. This issue is just as prevalent in the world of philanthropy as the denomination will often be held in one currency, usually the ‘home’ currency, and this will be far removed from the currency needed for work delivered on the ground."

Risk Management for Charities: Getting Started | Philanthropy Impact: "The Institute for Risk Management (IRM) has launched a free short guide for the UK's 900,000 charities to better understand risk management. The guide summarises the four T's of risk identification and management."
