NTUC FairPrice donates S$1m at One Community Walk for needy families - Channel NewsAsia: "Over the years, the FairPrice Food Voucher scheme has contributed S$8 million worth in vouchers to over 160,000 requests for financial assistance.

The current donation brings the total amount to S$9 million to meet over 180,000 requests.

This year, over 85,000 participants registered for the walk."

Almost 30 years later, Canadians face their own fundraising challenges with an economy that has been battered. But what matters most today, what compelled Terry to finish that 26th mile every day, is the knowledge that nothing is tougher to deal with than a diagnosis of cancer, news that more than 455 Canadians receive every day. It was in the face of this kind of adversity that Terry first found his indomitable spirit."

Among them was Lorraine Tighe, a recent contestant on BBC show The Apprentice, whose daughter Alexia contracted the disease at the age of two.

Ms Tighe, 37, is supporting the Bristol-based charity's Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign, which aims to develop a vaccine for meningitis B.

This was the strain which left Alexia critically ill."

Step up for charity: "South West CDC and co-organiser Dairy Farm Singapore are calling for participants to contribute their steps at this Sunday's launch, where they are targeting to achieve at least half a million steps on stepping machines.

Some 500 youths from educational institutions and worshippers from faith groups will also be supporting them at the launch."

These are limited to a total of 7500 runners because of safety and logistical concerns with use of the Harbour Bridge and some North Shore roads.

More than $75,000 was donated to the marathon's official charity, the National Heart Foundation."
